Locally Supported POS Systems for Tasmanian Businesses

This is information for users of IdealPOS and details how we will proceed with your IdealPOS installation for the various versions.

Version 6.x

There is no further support for Version 6.x.  Your IdealPOS will not expire but before we will work on your system it must be upgraded to Version 8.  Ideal are not issuing any new Version 7 licences.

There is a once-off licence upgrade cost for this and then time expended costs that cannot readily be quoted.  This is a complex process and might take several hours to get a stable Version 8 database.  Your stations will then be updated to this version.  This will disrupt your operations.

Version 7.x

Version 7.x is End Of Life at the end of 2022.  That means that Ideal will change the way they support it and this will increase support costs.  Patches and fixes will cease and new features will not be added.

We will continue to work with Version 7.x systems until June 30, 2023 after which you will have to upgrade to Version 8.  There is a once-off licence upgrade cost for this plus an annual subscription charge and then time expended costs.  This is a complex process and might take several hours to get a stable Version 8 database.  Your stations will then be updated to this version.  This will disrupt your operations.

Update 07/01/2023 If you call for support on an older 7.x system then our first step will be to upgrade it to the latest 7.1 build.  We’ve found that older builds of V7.x cause some strange issues which eventually require a build install anyway, so we are starting with that to save time and costs.

Update 10/05/2023  You will need these upgrades to V7.1 so you can upgrade to Version 8.  If you are not on a build of 7.1 when you upgrade to Version 8 then your upgrade costs will increase to perform these interim build upgrades.

Update 11/01/2024  We are no longer supporting Version 7 or 7.1. Your V7.x  licence does not expire as a result of this decision, your system will continue to operate normally.

If you call for support, the first step will be to schedule the upgrade to Version 8.  After your V8 upgrade is confirmed we will work on your system to repair it and bring it up to V8 requirements.  The actual V8 upgrade will then take place at a suitably agreeable time.

Version 8

This is the current version of IdealPOS.  It’s licencing is different to previous versions in that it is a subscription licence.  The software and data is still installed in your terminals and it is not cloud based.  All previous V6 and V7 licences were ‘perpetual’ and these translate to V8 Hybrid Licences and have a low-cost subscription.

Hardware Suitability - Updated 10/05/2023

If you have Version 6 or Version 7 it is likely that your terminal(s) are not suitable for Version 8.

If you do not have Windows 10 64Bit then you will be upgraded to Windows 10 64 Bit.  This is so your Version 8 system can be installed with the latest version of the SQL Server database. 

Update 11/01/2024 We can step this step on your instruction however it means your stations will remain running the 2008 version of SQL Server.

If your processor is not powerful enough then your terminal might need to be replaced.  You can check this by going back to the Windows Desktop, right-clicking on ‘My Computer’ and selecting ‘Properties’.  Snip this page and include it with your other information, this will tell us everything we need to know.
